Anthropic said the bottleneck has shifted from writing code to developer tools designed for human scale (@AnthropicAI). According to its engineering blog, Scion moves history lookups, merges, and rebases to the server, while clients fetch only the files they need. Official figures: CPU and memory requirements are 200 times smaller than the previous git mirror setup, and checkouts dropped from minutes to seconds (Anthropic engineering blog). @DanielMiessler sees even a veteran tool like git starting to be replaced; @ziv_ravid noted that Scion borrows the architecture of Google Piper and Meta Sapling plus Google Spanner, and that more merges doesn't mean more useful software.
